This is arguably one of the best movie guides ever written. It includes color photos of the movies, lists of the cast and crew, and trivia from each movie. While the book does not have 1,000 movies like the other guide, the quality of the write-ups on each movie--and the movies selected--are far better. Of the movies I have seen, the choices are spot on (e.g., Animal House, Midnight Run, 40 Year Old Virgin, Office Space, Ordinary People, and Shawshank Redemption). There are also movies from every decade on the list. My movie queue is now full with movies I cannot wait to see!Product details

Just about the worst 'must-see' movie book ever published.
According to the blurb on the cover it's "The Essential Guide to the Greatest Films of All Time" but before you get to the end of the 'B' section you've already encountered 'Animal House'; 'Bad Santa'; 'Breathless' and 'Blue Velvet'.
It's far too subjective to be of any value unless you're completely on the same wavelength as the author and for that you'll need to be an American of a particular generation.
Believe me, this book features more turkeys than a butcher's shop window at Christmas.
Avoid at all costs!!
